What should  we eat?  How much should we eat?  How do we know if we're really eating a nutritious meal?  We all want to eat healthy food, but when we eat at restaurants, sometimes it's difficult to know if we're really eating a meal that's good for us.  Luckily, many restaurants post the nutritional information for their menu selections on their websites. This allows consumers to visit the website before they visit the restaurant, so they can make healthy choices!

On average, a healthy child needs between 1,600 and 2,500 calories and between 45-66 grams of fat each day.  Create a menu for yourself and compare your meal's calorie totals and fat totals to the recommended daily calories and fat.

1.  Decide which fast food chain you'd like to visit.  Use the links on the right to plan a meal plan a meal with a sandwich, salad or other main dish, a side dish (french fries, etc), a drink, and a dessert. For each item on your menu, record the total calories and the total grams of fat.

McDonald's:  http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.nutrition.index1.html

2.  Open the spreadsheet template in the Kirby's Mill Share Drive to record your data.

3.  Use the graphing tools in Excel to create a bar graph that represents your meal.  Then create another bar graph that compares the totals of your meal to the recommended daily totals.

4.  Save and ask for permission to print.
