Introduction
The citizens of New Jersey are frustrated with the states' newspapers.  People who live in South Jersey aren't informed about news in North Jersey, just as the people who live near the coast don't receive thorough news coverage about events that happen in the mountainous region of the state.  The governor of New Jersey has proposed the creation of a statewide newspaper.   However, every newspaper staff in the state thinks it could create the best statewide newspaper.  Who should get the job?

The governor has decided to make the newspaper a contest for fourth grade students.  Whichever class can create the best first edition statewide newspaper will then be able to cover the news for the entire state!  Are you up for the challenge?

Task
Your task is to work with a partner or in a small group.  You will research one or two New Jersey topics and work together to create one page of the newspaper in Microsoft Publisher.  The first edition of the newspaper will cover  topics such as Facts and Symbols, Economy, Geography, The State Constitution, Government, Early Settlers, Revolutionary War, Legends and Folklore, Notable People and your hometown and county.

Process
Your group can access the packets by using the blue links below.  The links listed below each topic will help you answer the questions in your packet.  When your group has answered all of the questions, use your answers to create a newspaper story.  Open the newsletter template for your topic in the KirbyShare drive.  Take turns typing the stories and work together to design the layout and to select the photographs from PicSearch.com.
